White Paper on Intercultural Dialogue
Living together as equals in dignity
Cultural diversity is an essential condition of modern human society. The promotion of intercultural dialogue aims to make this diversity a source of richness and to promote mutual understanding, reconciliation and tolerance.
The strategy of the Council of Europe in this area is to place intercultural dialogueat the center of the general mandate of the Organization to promote human rights, democracy and the rule of law, also strengthening social cohesion, peaceand stability .
The initiative of the White Paper on Intercultural Dialogue has been launched by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Council of Europe on May 7, 2008.
