Competenze trasversali. Valutazione e valorizzazione delle esperienze di studio all'estero

Volume 7 (2013)

A research on transversal skills acquired during an educational experience abroad, conducted by SICESE (Italian Section of the Comparative Education Society in Europe).

The Italian returnee (a student returning from a study stay abroad) has to face a difficult task: to re-enter the school from which he left, in the year in which he will take the State exams. This presents specific problems.
This volume focuses on the problem of the evaluation and valorisation by the Italian school system of the returnee's "foreign" acquisitions. Not only knowledge, but also concrete relational, planning and action skills which contribute to the overall maturity of the person and which the Italian school, at present, does not seem able to adequately evaluate and enhance.
The "European key competences" (which the Italian training system will have to adopt and which include these "transversal skills") could be a useful tool to allow our schools to "incorporate" in institutional terms these acquisitions (otherwise unrelated to its disciplinary approach) and to integrate their educational benefits.
Through the administration of questionnaires and interviews to a large sample of returnees, this research "probes" the presence of European transversal skills in the returnees' experience, and explores the reception (in terms of evaluation and valorisation) that they receive in Italian schools, identifying issues but also positive elements and proposing new reflections.
